There’s something about Montauk in the spring that just feels different. It’s quieter, slower, a little chilly but in the best way. We packed up the kids and headed out for a quick weekend escape, and it ended up being exactly what we needed.
If you’re thinking about doing the same, here’s exactly how we spent our time.
Where We Stayed
We stayed at the Montauk Yacht Club and it was such a great choice for a family trip.
It has that relaxed coastal feel but still feels put together. The indoor pool was a highlight (especially this time of year), and the property is big enough that the kids could explore without feeling cooped up.
If you’re going with a bigger family (like me), definitely ask about connecting rooms ahead of time, it makes everything easier.
We kept the first day really simple.
After checking in, we let the kids settle in, explore a bit, and just unwind from the drive. No rushing, no big plans; just easing into the weekend.
We stayed at the hotel for dinner that night, which honestly was the perfect call after traveling. It felt easy, relaxed, and let everyone just settle in without having to go back out.
Back to the room after, cozy night, early bedtime, and everyone reset.
Our main outing was the Montauk Point Lighthouse.
The grounds alone are absolutely worth it. The views are beautiful, there’s plenty of space for the kids to walk around, and it’s one of those places that feels special without needing a full plan. Keep in mind you have to be 41” to climb the lighthouse tower.
We kept the rest of the day really relaxed, driving around, stopping when something caught our eye, and just enjoying being out there.
And of course, we made time for a few food stops along the way, which honestly ended up being some of our favorite moments.
We had to stop here, and it completely lived up to the hype.
Their famous jelly-filled cinnamon sugar croissants are just as good as everyone says; warm, soft, and perfectly sweet. One of those treats you grab thinking you’ll share… and then immediately wish you got more.
Such a fun little addition to the weekend, and the kids were obsessed.
Such a classic breakfast spot. Pancakes, eggs, all the basics done really well. It’s easy, relaxed, and perfect with kids; exactly what we wanted before heading out for the day.
This was such a good, cozy lunch spot. Warm, laid-back, and super easy with kids. It has that classic Montauk feel—nothing overcomplicated, just a really solid, comfortable place where everyone finds something they like.
We also had breakfast at the hotel one morning and another dinner there during our stay, and it ended up being such a nice balance.
Not having to leave, bundle everyone up, and go back out made everything feel more relaxed. It’s one of those things you don’t always plan for, but it really added to how easy the weekend felt.
This kind of trip isn’t about packing your schedule; it’s about keeping things simple.
What worked best for us:
• Indoor pool time
• Letting the kids explore
• One main outing for the day
• A mix of going out and staying in for meals
• Plenty of downtime
And honestly, that’s what made it feel like a true break.
Montauk in the spring is all about slowing down.
It’s not beach days and big plans; it’s cozy mornings, fresh air, simple meals, and just being together without rushing from place to place.
100%.
It’s such an easy getaway, especially with kids, and even this time of year it still feels like a real change of pace.
Sometimes the simplest weekends end up being the best ones and this was definitely one of them.
