It’s only about time before we get hit with a snowstorm this year. The colder weather makes it tough to let the kids go out and play, and makes it even harder for us Moms to want to pack them up and take them somewhere. Although there are great indoor play spaces on Long Island like One Upon Treetop in Plainview, Sandbox Playspace in Huntington, and many others, sometimes its just tough to get out the door. We’ve compiled a list of indoor activities for those stay indoors days!
- Scavenger Hunt
Kids love interacting and finding things. Write some clues down, and make them easy to find- places like their room, snack drawer or pantry, etc.
- Mega Jenga
We all have extra wrapping paper and boxes lying around after the holidays. Make up a tower of different size boxes and let the kids construct a jenga tower!
- Sensory Box
Grab a shoe box, decorate it and place different items inside (like spaghetti, bread, a brush, etc.) and have the kids guess what’s inside.
- Make Slime!
It’s all the rage right now! Follow the easy instructions on I Heart Naptime
Print out some coloring Pages Momjunction, Crayola, Parents and set up a station with coloring pencils and crayons at the kitchen table.
Whether it;s dinner or dessert, kids love watching and replicating what mom and dad do! I know my 15 month old loves to be in the kitchen (read: arms) when I’m cooking. Here are some super simple recipes to follow from Taste of Home to try with the kids!
- Move Night!
Make some popcorn, Hot cocoa, set up some blankets and pillows on the floor or couch and snuggle up for some classic Children’s movies!
Classic Movies: Lion King, Despicable me, Frozen, Coco, Toy Story, How to Train your Dragon, Shrek)
Cover up a table with a tablecloth or newspaper and grab some printing paper. Give the kids free range of the canvas and let the get creative. Throw in some cut pieces of paper, pom moms, glue stick to add a little more creative motivation!
