As the CEO’s of our households, we Moms always have places to be, lunches and dinners to prepare and endless errands to run in between.

Many of us have planners and calendars that we carefully pick out, fill with appointments, but let’s face it, we don’t always stick to it.  I know for myself, picking a yearly calendar is one thing I look forward to and even with my iPhone calendar and a written agenda, I too find myself missing some important things to do.

Here are some tips to manage time wisely,

  1. Choose a Calendar that works best for you.
Some of us work better with written calendars, and some of us live off of our phones.  Choosing a calendar that works best for you and your family is important to stay organized.  Virtual calendars, like Google Calendar allows you to manage family calendars and merges entries.

  2. Set aside time to plan out your week
Take an hour each week to set goals for yourself, review family events and appointments and set realistic goals.  Revise any changed or cancelled appointments and add new events. Often times, we change our schedules around to fit other things in and forget to revise our calendars.
  3. Keep your calendar close
I keep my agenda on my nightstand and every morning I go over the day and peek at the rest of the week to remind myself of what is going on and what needs to get done.  it doesn’t matter what type of calendar or agenda you have, if you aren’t looking at it daily and making use of it, it might as well be sitting at the bottom of your junk drawer. Make this a habit, and soon it will be the only way to start your day.
  4. Delegate tasks
Being organized is great, but there are some days and weeks that you just cannot get it all done.  Plan ahead and communicate with family members to share in some tasks.
  5. Don’t overfill your Calendar
We will often find ourselves in situations where we’re running late, or a sudden emergency comes up- Life happens.  It’s important to not fill your entire day with appointments and errands- this is why weekly planning is important.  Try to only add on or two pressing items on your calendar a day- that way, you can give yourself enough time and space to be able to rearrange, and reschedule other things.
